Fly solo! – Nadina Liu was the only passenger to board a plane at Alicante-Elche Airport bound for Liverpool John Lennon Airport aboard a 189-seat Boeing 787-800.
“I was told I was the only person on the flight – I thought it was a joke, but it wasn’t,” said Nadina, who was returning to the UK after visiting Benidorm .
“It was a nice feeling to be alone on the plane – with five crew members to take care of me.
“It was kind of like a private jet, although I’ve never taken one before,” said Nadina, 28, who said she was treated like royalty.
Nadina, who arrived at Alicante-Elche airport after vacationing in Benidorm with two friends, said: “I got to the boarding gate and found no one else there.
“I got a little worried thinking I had the wrong door, so I asked the woman in the office if I was in the right place for the flight from Liverpool. She said I was.
Nadina, who paid £ 50 for her flight, said other passengers booked on the flight may have delayed their return home until July 19, or later, to avoid having to self-quarantine during 10 days.
The new rules for “Freedom Day” which went into effect on July 19 meant that adults or children under 18 returning from Orange List countries, which includes Spain, no longer had to. isolate yourself.
Anyone returning home before midnight (July 19) should have self-quarantined under coronovirus health and safety guidelines.
Nadina, who only had one vaccine against Covid-19, still should have quarantined herself, even if she had returned home later.
Nadina from Litherland, Merseyside, married and mother of two Lexi 8 and Jamie, 5, who boarded the evening Ryanair flight on July 17, said: “I was out in Alicante with my friends on the same flight, but they stayed for Ten days.
“I had only booked a five-day break – so I could go home with my family.
“I work from home as a test and trace call agent so it wasn’t going to be a big deal for me to quarantine.
“I had seat number 18A, but when I got on the flight I was told I could sit anywhere I wanted – I chose a seat with more room up front.
“The five cabin crew were really nice – one told me it was the first time she had boarded a plane with a passenger in 15 years with Ryanair.
“They just told me to make myself at home and ask if I wanted anything at all. They all found it pretty funny and treated me like a king.
“There was the usual pre-flight safety demonstration, but it was done just for me because I was the only passenger.
“The cabin crew included a young boy in training. One of the pilots came over and said “hello” before take off. Everything was very personal and a great level of service.
Nadina added: “Other than there being no other passengers, it was like a normal flight, with the usual tannoy messages from the cockpit.
“I chatted with the crew and took care of scrolling through my phone.
“Upon arriving in Liverpool, I walked down the steps to the tarmac on my own, and a member of staff met me and led me into the terminal.”
