Georgia, number one, will put their undefeated record on the line Saturday afternoon at Rocky Top against a Tennessee team that has steadily improved under freshman coach Josh Heupel. But let’s face it – it’s more about bragging than anything else. Tennessee hasn’t passed Georgia since the Dobbs Nail Boot game in 2016, and the Bulldogs would love nothing more than to end the little momentum the Volunteers have built up over the past month and more.
This match will feature an important clash between a Georgian defense who is by far the best in the country against an attack from Tennessee which has become one of the most dangerous big-game units in the SEC.
Let’s break down the match and make choices directly and against the spread.
Georgia vs Tennessee: Need to Know
Biggest challenge to date: Make no mistake, the Tennessee offense is Georgia’s biggest defense threat so far this season. The Volunteers lead the SEC in yards per game in conference games at 7.15, and they had a whopping 9.81 last weekend in the win over Kentucky. Hendon Hooker is one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the SEC, and coach Kirby Smart knows how dangerous he can be when Heupel picks up the pace.
âIt’s so fast that you can’t really simulate it in your workouts, so you have to try to find a creative way to work out,â Smart said on Monday. âIt’s so different from the triple option, I’m not trying to compare it to that, but it’s so different that it’s hard to prepare for it. You can’t simulate it with your team at less than doing it. We don’t do this as well as they do, so it’s hard to prepare for it. ”
If Tennessee can keep hitting those big plays, Georgia could be tested for the first time this season.
This is the Stetson Bennett show: It’s clear at this point that the former replacement is Georgia’s starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. He started off, threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns and was the undisputed No.1 quarterback against Missouri until JT Daniels came in for the cleanup. Of course, Daniels might not be 100%. But if he’s healthy enough to be a replacement, he’s healthy enough to start with.
Can Bennett win a college football playoff title? It remains to be seen. But he ranks No. 2 nationally in yards per attempt at 11.8, which is too much for Smart to ignore.
Jordan Davis’ Heisman Campaign: Is the Bulldogs’ massive nose guard a candidate for the Heisman Trophy? Yes, at least according to Caesars Sportsbook. He’s 11th in odds at +8000, and a dominant performance against that attack on the national stage will no doubt bring that buzz to a low roar. Smart knows how important it is to stop the middle ground, but will let Heisman speak to voters.
“I love Jordan. What he has done in our defense is incredible,” he said on Monday. âI don’t think you can measure in the statistics what he has done in our defense. I know analysts will decide who chooses Heisman, and who is willing to do so is determined by the media and the talking heads. “
It’s a big “wink, wink, nod, nod” to voters to pay attention to Davis’ work even when he’s not making a tackle. Smart may not care publicly, but he knows what a Heisman campaign for Davis would mean for his program and for recruiting.

Georgia vs Tennessee prediction, pick

Tennessee will have enough success in the big guys department to score more points over Georgia than any other team in the country. Admittedly, 14 points will be enough to accomplish this feat, but Hooker will knock out a few big ones and at least keep Georgia’s defense honest in the second half. Smart will cut things down late in the game just to get out of Knoxville with a win as quickly as possible. Prediction: Tennessee (+20.5)
