SDSU vs Villanova Football 2021 Preview
The Jackrabbits just picked up a 24-19 victory over Sacramento State on December 4. SDSU has an impressive background tandem with Pierre Strong Jr. and Isaiah Davis, both of whom were instrumental in the victory. Davis had 19 carries for 108 yards and two touchdowns, and Strong added 73 yards and one 14 carries in the victory.
SDSU is averaging 37.7 points per game on offense, and its defense is dropping 18.8 points per game, but the busy schedule for the week could take its toll in South Dakota.
“It’s a huge tension”, coach of the Jackrabbits John Stiegelmeier said. “The fact that we got back to town on Sunday morning at 6:30 am… to lose an hour the next time we take the plane, and again it’s a three hour trip, it’s very hard on the body. . We’re asking guys to get more sleep this week. It’s finals week. … It’s an additional stressor. We ask the guys to take maximum care of themselves.
On the other side, Nova is averaging 30.8 points per game, and he’s got his own stingy defense, allowing up 15.2 points and a ridiculously low total of 262.6 yards per game.
The Wildcats are just coming off a 21-16 win over Holy Cross on December 3. Nova played a solid game defensively, and that carried the team after the offense only racked up 281 total yards the entire game.
“Wins are hard to come by and luckily we found a way to get one today,” said Wildcats head coach Mark Ferrante. via College Sports Journal. “I’ve talked about the resilience of this team all year. We had a bit of momentum there before half-time but they came out and grabbed it in the second half with their first practice and then the kick-off that followed. It’s about surviving and moving forward this time of year… this time of year, it’s just about finding a way.
It should be a battle of two very fierce defenses, and both teams are ready for a low-scoring grudge match.
“Just their ability not to rig, to line up in defense of the base, and everyone knows what they’re doing. And they are doing it at full speed. I mean, they change stuff. But I think if they had what they wanted they would line up in base defense and just say. ‘Show me. Show me you can move the ball. Stiegelmeier said on what he expects to see against Villanova. We’ll see if he’s right.
