Struthers Wildcats vs. West Branch Warriors High School Football Game of the Week 2022

BELOIT, Ohio WKBN) – WKBN’s Game of the Week takes place this Friday from Beloit, where one of the West Branch’s most prolific offenses will be looking to soar again.

However, Struthers has won six games in a row and has beaten two teams (Jefferson and Girard) who are still in competition this weekend.

Something must give the opportunity to advance to the regional semi-finals.

Game Notes
-Struthers has won its last six games since the start of the season with a 1-4 record. Their four losses have come against teams that have all made the playoffs, including two teams still playing in Week 12 (Geneva and South Range).

–Struthers outscored Edgewood, 49-16, in the first round of the playoffs last Friday. The Wildcat offense gained 486 total offensive yards and the defense forced four turnovers. Struthers quarterback Alec Grzyb completed both of his passing attempts (for 48 yards) and led the team on the ground with 163 yards on eight carries. Tyler Sanchez also passed the 100-yard mark (103) and scored a pair of touchdowns.

-A week ago, the ‘Cats won their first postseason game since 2013 (loss Lakeview, 14-3).

-Struthers is making his fifth playoff appearance in the last seven years.

-In John Bayuk’s third season, his Wildcats won more games (seven) than they had won in his first two years (six) in charge of Struthers football.

–With their win over Salem two weeks ago, West Branch clinched their third consecutive Eastern Buckeye Conference championship. During that streak, the Warriors went 31-4.

-West Branch have won 10 straight games since dropping in Week 1 to Canfield (35-31).
-In their Week 11 win, West Branch beat Field – 52-20 – behind big day Boston Mulinix (117 rushing yards) and Beau Alazaus (242 passing yards, five total touchdowns) among others .

-West Branch has now compiled back-to-back double-digit winning seasons for the first time since 1990-91 when coach Jim Laut’s Warrior teams won the Northeastern Buckeye Conference and qualified for the playoffs.
