Fantasy Football fans were stranded in a timeout on the first Sunday of the NFL season after the ESPN app crashed.

The blackout began around 1 p.m. ET on Sunday – just as nine NFL games kicked off across the country.

Users received the following error message: “An error occurred while trying to access Fantasy Football. Try Again.”

ESPN Sports tweeted an apology, but the issues persisted for more than two hours.

In a recent press release, ESPN touted the updates to the new app:

The new ESPN Fantasy app updates the # 1 ESPN Fantasy Football app on iPhone, iPad, Android phone, and 7-inch Android tablets, and lets users play Fantasy Football, Baseball, Basketball and Hockey in the same app for the first time. first time already. Major improvements for this year include an all-new design and visuals that feature new game logos, player portraits, sticker packs, and animations; award-winning fantastic analysis and video accessible directly from the app’s home screen; improved features for draft and live scoring; and personalized notifications tailored to user lists. The free downloadable application allows users to register, create or join a league, customize their league, write, trade, add players, track their matches with scores in time live, view expert analysis and videos, and view and post messages to fellow league members.

The internet has not been very kind to ESPN after the problem. Here are some of the best reactions on social media:
